Edge 520 is a new Garmin GPS cycle computer. It is a continuation of the Garmin Edge 500 cycle computer, which already includes the iconic Edge 500 and the somewhat younger Edge 510 with a touch screen. The new Edge 520 has ambitions to become the successor of the legendary Edge 500, which despite its age is one of the most popular GPS cycle computers. For comparison, the Edge 520 offers: a weight of less than 60 grams, a non-touch, very readable color display, the ability to display up to 10 quantities simultaneously on one display, LiveTracking and smart notification when connected to a smartphone, and many other functions.
The Garmin Edge 520 was developed as a racing cycle computer. During development, emphasis was placed on minimum weight and at the same time maximum display area. For the first time, the functions of measuring cycling VO2max, analysis of time spent in individual heart rate zones and the possibility of competing with segments of the popular STRAVA training tool were integrated into the Edge series cycle computer. The Garmin Edge 520 is also compatible with the newly announced Garmin Varia cycling radar and adaptive cycling lights. Built-in ANT + communication allows the new Edge 520 to connect an ANT + wattmeter, such as Garmin Vector2, Shimano Di2 electronic shifter or other ANT + compatible accessories.
Today, the possibility of Bluetooth communication with Android or iOS smartphones is a matter of course. The connection with smart phones offers the possibility of smart notifications (display of incoming or lost calls, sms, emails and other notifications), live sharing of the cyclists' position - the so-called "LiveTracking" or sending training records to the GarminConnect training server directly from the field via mobile data transmission.
