The stretchy upper layer fabric lets a little air through so you don't sweat as much during intense cold-weather riding, because when you're wet, you'll get cold. The inner layer of Polartec® Alpha material insulates, but is breathable enough and so light you won't even know you're wearing anything.
The back is made of Nano Flex Extra Dry, which insulates solidly, but because it doesn't have a membrane, it breathes great and sweat can evaporate quickly. The fit is close to the body so nothing flaps in the wind, and small details complete the package: smooth-running YKK® zippers, reflective elements and drainage holes on the pockets, a flat silicone waistband. Thanks to the precise fit, this is Castelli's most aerodynamic jacket. Not that aerodynamics are that important in winter, but at Castelli they believe speed is fun.
