Muc-Off eBike Drivetrain Multi-Tool, 3 Functions
If you own an eBike, you know that cleaning and lubing your chain is a tricky business, as the cranks don't spin backwards like on a normal bike unless they are flipped upside down. This can scratch components, or if you use an Allen key in the crank bolt, it can get stuck in the bolt, or worse, damage your precious cranks! That's why we knew we had to come to the rescue with a new radical tool that allows you to quickly and easily clean and lube your eBike chain.
Our new precision-machined eBike drivetrain tool features three different tool sizes that snap in via a magnetic connection, all housed in a durable CNC-machined 6061 aluminium body. It slots directly onto the chainring, so you can spin the crank backwards, and a protective silicone sleeve prevents any damage to the crank.
It comes with a handy lanyard and carabiner clip so you can keep the tool close by whenever your drivetrain needs a bit of love!
- Precision-machined 6061 aluminium body with screw-on cap
- Internal Polypropylene bit driver holds: 5mm, 6mm Hex bits and a T30 Torx bit
- Rubber O-ring reduces water ingress to bits
- Silicone sleeve protects bike crank when back pedalling
- Corrosion-resistant Neodymium magnet snaps bits into place
- Handy size to take anywhere
- Allows for easy drivetrain cleaning, maintenance and lubing
- Anodised finish in Muc-Off pink!
Package contains:
1x Precision-machined 6061 aluminium tool
1x T30 Torx bit
1x 5mm Hex bit
1x 6mm Hex bit
O-ring to keep water out
Lanyard with carabiner clip
Instructions for use:
1. Unscrew the top cap and then remove the bit driver from inside the body.
2. Select the appropriate tool bit for your crank (5mm, 6mm Hex, T30 Hex) then insert the tool bit driver back inside and screw the top cap back on.
3. Insert the selected tool bit into the end of the tool. You will feel it magnetically snap into place.
4. Place the tool bit onto the crank bolt and ensure it is flush and centred.
5. Slowly back pedal until the crank arm is close to the silicone sleeve on the tool body.
6. Back pedal whilst holding the pedal to perform the cleaning and lubing regime.
7. When removing the drivetrain tool from the chainring bolt, you may need to pedal forwards slightly.
8. Carefully remove the tool and store the bit back in the bit driver.
Note: Regularly spray a protectant such as HCB-1, MO-94 or Bike Protect onto the end and magnet to ensure zero corrosion.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q1: Is it safe to back pedal and spin the chainring on an eBike?
A: Yes, it is safe. We had this verified by a Bosch motor service technician during development who confirmed it causes no issues with the motor.
Q2: Will the tool fit all eBike chainrings?
A: Our tool is not compatible with chainrings without a spider, but it fits most chainrings that use spider bolts. Due to the tapered chainring spider on some eBikes, such as the Specialized Levo SL, the tool bit is slightly too short to engage with the chainring bolt.
Q3: Will this tool damage my crank arms?
A: No, we have designed the tool with a protective silicone sleeve that wraps around the tool body and rests against the crank arms when in use.
Q4: How is this product sustainable?
A: The product is designed to last for the duration of its use. At the end of its life, the individual materials used to make the tool can be separated and recycled (aluminium, silicone, rubber and steel). All packaging is cardboard which is also easily recycled.
