26-inch wheels have been popular on mountain bikes for many years and have been the standard for mountain bikes but have become less common in recent years as larger wheel sizes have proliferated, such as 27.5-inch and 29-inch wheels. However, some older mountain bikes and some specialized uses still use 26-inch wheels. Dirt jump and BMX, freeride and downhill bikes use 26-inch wheels, which are suitable for these disciplines because the smaller diameter provides more agility and control, which is essential for tricks and jumps.

Larger wheels are often preferred for their ability to more easily overcome obstacles and maintain momentum, especially when riding off-road and on trails. As a result, the availability of tyres and other components for 26-inch wheels can be more limited compared to larger sizes.
