Inner tubes, valves and bicycle inserts

Choosing the right valves, inserts, and tubes for your bike is important for optimal performance and safety. Here is a guide to help you decide and choose:

  • Valves:
    • Presta valve: Thinner and lighter. Commonly used in high-end road bikes and mountain bikes. Requires a specific pump with a Presta valve compatible head.
    • Schrader valve (auto): Similar to the valves on car tires. Wider and more robust. Compatible with most standard air pumps.
  • Inserts: Tire inserts are protective strips placed between the tire and tube that prevent punctures.
  • Tubes: Make sure the size of the tube matches the size of the tire. Sizes are usually indicated on the side of the tire. The butyl material is affordable and holds air well. Latex is light, more flexible, but can be more expensive and may require more frequent inflation.
Always check the specifications of tires and rims and choose components that match them. In addition, consider factors such as riding conditions, frequency, and type of cycling. Check and maintain your tires and inner tubes regularly to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride.
