The Fenix HP16R rechargeable headlamp has a total output of up to 1250 lumens and two light cones. The long-distance reflector with a high-end Luminus SST-40 LED creates a well-focused light beam with an afterglow of up to 260 meters, and the second reflector with a powerful Cree XP-G3 S4 LED has a very wide and continuous light trail up to a distance of 48 meters. The luminous flux of the long-distance reflector is up to 1250 lumens, the reflector with a wide cone offers a maximum output of 400 lumens and a neutral shade of light. The control of both LEDs is independent of each other, the light from both reflectors can be combined at will and thus achieve a short-term luminous flux of up to 1250 lumens. The remote reflector offers four lighting levels and three wide. In addition, the headlamp is equipped with a red LED with an output of 5 lumens with an SOS signal.

One Li-pol battery ARB-LP3000 with a capacity of 3000 mAh is used for power supply, which is included in the package and is charged via a modern USB-C connector. This battery is placed in a case on the back of the head, so the headlamp is well balanced on the head. If necessary, it can be replaced with four regular AA pencil batteries, with which, however, the maximum output is limited to 800 lumens and they cannot be charged in the headlamp.

The headlamp is made of hardened aluminum and durable plastics, its construction is fully dustproof and waterproof according to the IP66 standard, and also shockproof when dropped from a height of 2 meters. At the same time, it is also equipped with the function of extending the endurance. During prolonged use of individual light modes, the headlamp gradually reduces power in small steps to achieve a longer lighting time.

The HP16R headlamp replaces the older version of the HP15. Thanks to its high performance and durability and the possibility of using pencil batteries, it is suitable for everyone who wants to have a strong and reliable partner in the dark and in extreme conditions. It will serve great when working, e.g. rescuers and other professions, but also athletes, climbers, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts.

All parameters of the headlamp (luminous flux, operating time on batteries, waterproofing, afterglow and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

Fenix HP16R headlamp parameters

  • The light source in the remote reflector is a white LED Luminus SST-40, the source in the wide reflector is a Cree XP-G2 S3 with a neutral shade of light, and a red LED Everlight 2835 is also available. All with a lifetime of 50,000 hours of light.
  • A total of nine performance modes:
    • Remote reflector: 1250 lumens (4 hours*) -> 400 lumens (8 hours*) -> 150 lumens (12 hours) -> 50 lumens (36 hours)
    • Wide reflector: 400 lumens (8 hours*) -> 150 lumens (12 hours) -> 5 lumens ( 300 hours )
    • Red light: 5 lumens (300 hours) -> red flashing SOS 5 lumens (600 hours)
  • Remote reflector for a perfect light cone with an afterglow of 260 meters (16933 cd).
  • Wide reflector with afterglow up to a distance of 48 meters (583 cd).
  • * During prolonged use of the two highest light modes, the headlamp gradually reduces power in small steps to achieve a longer lighting time
  • It uses a Fenix ARB-LP3000 Li-pol battery (included in the package).
  • Charging via USB-C connector, charging time for a completely discharged battery is approx. 3 hours.
  • Alternatively, four pencil batteries (type AA - alkaline, lithium Energizer L91 Ultimate Lithium or rechargeable NiMH) can also be used for power supply. However, these batteries cannot be charged in the headlamp and the maximum output with them is limited to 800 lumens.
  • The switches are protected against unintentional switching on in the luggage.
  • The battery is placed in a separate case on the back of the head, so the headlamp is well balanced on the head.
  • The reflector can be tilted in several steps and thereby set the desired lighting direction.
  • Made of durable plastic and aircraft-grade hardened aluminum.
  • Impact-resistant from a fall from a height of 2 meters.
  • Headlamp dimensions including holders: 6.2 cm x 4.7 cm x 3.2 cm
  • Battery case dimensions: 7.3 cm x 6.9 cm x 2.5 cm
  • Weight 216 grams (including straps and battery), 152 grams without battery.
  • Waterproof and dustproof according to the IP66 standard (spraying with strong streams of water from all directions).
  • Tempered ultra-clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating for the remote reflector.
  • The package includes a headlamp, USB-C charging cable, ARB-LP3000 battery, four Fenix ALD-02 clips for attaching the headlamp to the helmet, transport bag, spare o-rings, cable clips.
  • A Fenix APB-30 case and a set of black AFH-02 straps without reflective elements can be purchased for the headlamp.

Using the HP16R headlamp

There may be an insulating cap on the battery from the factory. Remove it from the battery before first use.

The remote reflector is switched on by holding down the right button (approx. 0.5s), the wide reflector or the red light is turned on by holding down the left button (0.5s). Pressing the right button cycles through the modes of the remote reflector, pressing the left button switches the modes of the wide reflector and red light in the following order: white 5, 150, 400 lumens, red 5 lumens, SOS signal. Both reflectors are turned off by holding down the corresponding button, and after turning off the headlamp remembers the last set mode (with the exception of turning off in the highest mode of the remote reflector, then next time it will turn on in the second highest mode for safety reasons). Both reflectors can be switched on at the same time.

Battery charge status indication - After a short press of any button (headlight must be switched off), the LED battery charge status indicator between the buttons is activated. If the green light is on, it means that the battery is charged to 85-100%, if the green light is flashing, it means that the battery is charged to 50-85%. If the red light comes on, the battery is 25-50% charged, and if it starts flashing, the battery is critical and the headlamp is less than 25% charged.

The control buttons can be locked to prevent spontaneous activation, e.g. when transporting in luggage - in the switched off state, press both buttons and hold them for min. 3 seconds, then the headlamp will flash red to indicate locking. To unlock, it is necessary to hold both buttons again for three seconds.

Protection against overheating: If the temperature of the headlamp exceeds 65 °C, it will automatically reduce power in gradual steps until the temperature stabilizes. As soon as the temperature drops below 65 °C, the power will gradually increase again.

Battery low warning: when the voltage drops below a certain limit, it automatically switches to a lower power mode, if the battery status indicator starts to flash during lighting, the battery is almost empty.

Charging: Unfold the cover of the USB-C connector on the battery case and plug in the included charging cable, plug the other end of the cable into a computer, power bank or USB adapter to the mains or USB car adapter (not included in the package). During charging, the LED on the battery case lights up red. When fully charged, it will stay on green. Charging a completely discharged battery takes about 3 hours.

Warning of exhausted batteries - the headlamp gradually automatically reduces the number of available power modes. When the batteries are completely discharged, only the lowest mode will be available.

Warning

  • Do not disassemble the sealed parts yourself, this will void the warranty.
  • Use only the Fenix ARB-LP3000 battery or high-quality pencil batteries to avoid damage to the lamp, for example, due to leakage of substances from the batteries.
  • If you use disposable pencil batteries, remove them from the headlamp unless you are going to use it for a long time or if the batteries are dead. This will prevent them from leaking and subsequently damaging the headlamp.
  • If the headlamp flashes, does not switch to higher power modes, or does not light up, it may be for one of the following reasons:
    • The batteries are almost empty - replace them or charge the accumulator.
    • The contacts in the battery holder are dirty - clean them with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
