Climbing skins for ski mountaineering
Climbing skin is made of either mohair or nylon. Mohair is a fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat. It has excellent properties in different temperatures and types of snow. Mohair skins have a good slippage and non-changing features in outer conditions. Nylon is an artificial fibre whose properties are weaker at lower temperatures, and it tends to harden. This reduces their slippage, which requires more effort. Their advantages are better ascending, longer durability and lower price. There is also a mix of nylon and mohair, which is more resistant to rubbing, has better slippage and climbability.
