Friends and stoppers
Friends are pieces of climbing equipment that provide protection against parallel or even slightly wide cracks. Friends are classified by climbers as active progressive belays because they have moving parts. They are an important safety piece of equipment in traditional outdoor climbing, helping you to place belays where passive belays may not work. Stoppers are inserted into the narrowings of cracks to provide protection in traditional outdoor climbing. There are many types of stoppers offered by many brands, in all colours, shapes and sizes.
