The Switchblade MIPS is our new integral with a removable chin guard that meets downhill ASTM certification. Fully optimized for downhill, the Switchblade meets all required standards: CPSC, EN-1078 and ASTM-1952-DH, with and without a chin guard! The mechanism for releasing the chin guard is simple: press the button, turn up and pull out. This immediately increases the ability to ventilate the helmet during the journey up. The full Roc Loc Air DH fastening system takes care of the fit on the head.
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) provides increased protection against rotational forces on the head.

MIPS IS A MOVEMENT
Progress in the development of bicycle helmets.
All Giro helmets are designed to absorb as much energy as possible during an impact and meet the applicable European standard: EN 1078. The aim of the new MIPS technology is to eliminate the rotational forces that act on the head in the event of a fall. In an impact at any angle, the MIPS system allows the EPS shell of the helmet to rotate independently around the rider's head. Although this movement is only on the order of a few millimeters, we believe that MIPS technology significantly reduces the amount of rotational force that would otherwise be transmitted to the brain.
WHAT IS MIPS (multidirectional Impact Protection System) and how does it work?
MIPS is a slippery insert between the EPS shell (helmet body) and the inner linings. In the event of an impact at an angle (for example, when you catch your head on a branch), the EPS shell of the helmet rotates a few millimeters after the MIPS layer, protecting the head and brain from a violent rotational jerk.
