Fenix 14500 800 mAh Li-Ion battery
Fenix ARB-L14-800 (14500) rechargeable battery with protection is based on lithium-ion technology. Li-ion technology gives one of the best ratios of the amount of stored energy to the weight of the cell. The batteries have no memory effect and self-discharge is minimal.
Battery protection can be divided into two areas. In the first, electronic circuits are added, which prevent the cell from being overcharged (a situation where there is a risk of explosion with classic li-ion batteries) or, on the contrary, from discharging too much (the battery would then not be able to be recharged). In addition, these circuits protect the battery against a short circuit or high current consumption, which could damage the battery. If the battery electronics evaluates reaching the limit values, it disconnects the cell. In the second, there is protection against overheating (PTC thermal protection) and a special anti-explosion valve. Unlike other valves used in li-ion batteries, this one, when the gas pressure in the cell exceeds a certain limit, separates the electrodes inside the battery and thus de-facto interrupts the exothermic reaction and releases the overpressure of gas outside the battery. Thanks to the combination of electronic and mechanical (temperature and pressure) protection, Fenix batteries are among the safest li-ion batteries available.
The size of the 14500 battery roughly corresponds to a classic pencil battery (type AA), but it has about 3x higher voltage. Therefore, it can only be used to power lamps and headlamps that support this higher voltage. It can be used, for example, in Fenix RC05, Fenix LD09 (220 lumen version only), Fenix LD11, Fenix LD12 (320 lumen version only), Fenix E25 Ultimate Edition, Fenix HL35 headlamp.
