I installed the derailleur when I changed from a 7-speed system to a 9 (cross s-trekking bike). I have a two-piece Alivio 48-36-26 in the front. It works well, the front can't handle the large chainring, the rear can't handle it anymore (the chain comes off the pulley), but those cross gears shouldn't be used normally.
