Race Face Turbine platform pedals, black
RACE FACE Turbine pedals prioritize maximum grip. It is designed for riders who want their feet to stay in place after they are put on, who tear off their feet less often, and who spend more time on climbs - especially steep and technical climbs. The right choice of pedals for a rider depends on personal preference, but if you care about grip and bike handling, Turbines are the clear choice. On mountain bikes, flat pedals have obvious advantages over their clipless counterparts. It is easier to change foot position after stepping back on the pedal. If you need to regain your balance on a slow, technical section, you can fold your leg. They conveniently allow you to jump off the bike without taking your foot off the pedal.
Flat pedals have a degree of freedom that clipless pedals do not offer. It is this freedom that causes more than half of all MTB riders - even experienced ones - to use flat pedals. What if you could ride efficiently and with the confidence of clipless pedals, but still enjoy the freedom of flat pedals? That's why we made Turbine pedals.
Turbine pedals have a 3mm deep concave. The concave pedal platform creates a locked-in feel due to the foot being inside. Due to the added grip offered by the pins, heavily concave pedals hold better than slightly concave or flat pedal platforms. Some manufacturers achieve the "concaveness" by adding tall pins around the perimeter of the pedal. Others use concavity exclusively in the front and back directions. The Turbine model is designed with concavity in all directions. Our pedal platform is thinnest in the middle and thicker on all edges - front, back, inside and out - to make it concave in all directions. Asymmetric pedal platform designed to work more effectively with the sole of the shoe because it follows the anatomical shape of the foot. It is wider at the front than at the back, providing maximum support, pin contact and grip. This platform shape also provides slightly better ground clearance and a greater chance of bouncing off ground objects.
No bearing impactsUsing a simpler - but proven - internal architecture (a bushing inside and a ball bearing outside), the Turbine offers a larger effective platform and allows riders to guide their feet closer to the cranks. A narrower stance means a narrower Q-factor and consequently better pedaling ergonomics. The Turbine's internal components have undergone extensive laboratory testing with millions of cycles without any signs of wear. Like many other Race Face pedals, the Turbine is fully adjustable.
