What are the main advantages and disadvantages of bicycle chain waxes?

Waxes are ideal for road bikes, gravel, and dry off-road conditions, but when applied correctly, they also work reliably in slightly humid environments.

Why is wax more expensive than oil? Is it worth it?

Waxes have a more complex composition, higher application requirements, but at the same time:

How do I know when the wax on my chain is no longer effective?

When the chain is noisy, dry, or starts to rub, it's time to reapply. Likewise, after riding in the rain or mud, the wax needs to be renewed.

Can I wax my chain without disassembling it?

Yes, there are liquid waxes that can be applied directly to the chain without the need to disassemble it. However, for paraffin waxing (immersion in molten wax), the chain must be disassembled.
