With the Ineos Grenadiers team, Castelli decided to create better seamless leg warmers. Others available on the market are made using a nylon/Lycra® blend that tends to retain moisture. Better moisture management can be achieved using polyester yarn. However, working with polyester makes it difficult to achieve the right elasticity and knit compression. It took them a year longer than they thought, but it was worth it. These leg warmers have become a favorite among riders because they are extremely light and warm at the same time, yet they won't cause overheating in milder conditions. They are so stretchy you can barely feel them, but when you fold them, they take up a fraction of the space you would normally need to store them in a pocket.

I would call them sock-stocking-knitted gaiters. That probably says the most about the shape and material, they are gaiters for colder weather when it is already cold for bare feet and short socks. But they are not for real winter, it is a knitted material to protect the skin and slightly increase thermal comfort in colder weather. You need to choose the right temperature range for which you will use them and you will be satisfied. In my opinion, they are only suitable for the road, with MTB or gravel there is a high risk of damage.
