Frame Bags – Eight Bikes for Bikepacking

You no longer need the heavy steel racks of the 1980s for long expeditions. Today, all you need is a frame with plenty of mounting points, wide tires, and gearing capable of tackling any hill, even when fully loaded.

Marin Four Corners 2 - 1,799 €

Series 3 CrMo steel in both the frame and fork is not a step back in time, but a deliberate choice. Chromium-molybdenum tubing absorbs shocks from rough roads far better than aluminium, and in the worst-case scenario, it can even be welded in a small workshop somewhere on the other side of the world. The frame includes mounts for racks, fenders, and bottle cages, eliminating the need to wrestle with straps to secure your luggage. A 10–52T cassette paired with a 40T chainring provides enough range even for climbs you may have slightly underestimated on the map. This rugged gravel bike is available in five sizes at the MTBIKER shop.

BMC URS Two - 2,699 €

On a long journey, you want your luggage to stay out of the way. The URS achieves this with an elegant storage compartment integrated directly into the downtube. Tools and a spare tube, which would otherwise bounce around unnecessarily in your handlebar bag, can be stored securely inside. The Gen 2 carbon frame with Tuned Compliance technology in the rear triangle provides a degree of vertical flex, making all-day gravel rides significantly easier on your back. There are so many bikepacking mounts that you'll run out of energy long before you run out of carrying capacity. The internally routed dynamo cable in the fork is a detail you'll appreciate on the fifth day without access to a power outlet. You can take a closer look at the BMC URS TWO at the MTBIKER shop.

CTM Koyuk 30 - 1,699 €

Up to 55 millimeters! The Koyuk’s tire clearance belongs more to the world of mountain bikes than that of purebred gravel machines. However, on a road that turns into a mud bath after rain, those extra millimetres can make the difference between staying in the saddle and having to push your bike. The Shimano 10–51T cassette paired with a 40T chainring provides an excellent gear range for a fully loaded bike, without the complexity of a front derailleur. The aluminium frame features internal cable routing and the UDH standard, meaning a bent derailleur hanger can be replaced at virtually any well-equipped bike shop without having to wait for a specific spare part. You can find this versatile CTM machine at the MTBIKER shop.

Raymon Territ Pro - 1,549 €

Perhaps you think that two chainrings up front are outdated today, but on a true expedition, you'll appreciate their practicality. The 46/30T setup combined with an 11–34T cassette provides smoother gear progression than a single-chainring drivetrain, something your knees will likely appreciate after 10 hours in the saddle. The Shimano GRX gravel-specific groupset features an RD-RX810 rear derailleur equipped with a clutch (chain stabilizer) that keeps the chain secure even on very rough terrain. In size M, the bike weighs a respectable 11.2 kg, an impressive figure considering its generous specification. The Raymon Territ Pro is available in two color options at the MTBIKER shop.

Ghost Asket CF X - 3,799 €

Electronic shifting might seem like an unnecessary risk on long expeditions—until you realize that the SRAM AXS battery can be easily recharged from a standard power bank and provides enough power for dozens of hours of riding. The carbon frame and fork help keep the bike’s weight low, something you’ll appreciate on every climb with fully loaded bags. A cassette with a massive 10–52T range prepares you for virtually any terrain profile, while the frame comfortably accommodates tires up to 50 mm wide. The DT Swiss GRC 1600 wheelset, featuring carbon rims, was designed specifically for gravel riding. The Ghost Asket CF X is available at the MTBIKER shop.

Kellys Soot 50 - 1,299 €

Do you also have roads just a few kilometers from home that appear paved on the map but turn into rough gravel after only a couple of hundred meters? With the Soot 50, that’s not where the ride ends—on the contrary, it’s where a new adventure begins. The 40 mm tires handle loose and wet surfaces with ease, while the Shimano GRX gravel groupset delivers precise shifting even in the dustiest conditions. The combination of a carbon fork and an aluminium frame strikes an ideal balance: the bike is light on climbs yet durable enough that you never have to treat it gently. You head out in the morning, return by noon, and come back having discovered remarkable new places. The Kellys Soot 50 is available at the MTBIKER shop.

Orbea Terra H40 - 1,799 €

Just leave the smooth asphalt behind and turn onto an unpaved dirt road, and your usual training loop suddenly takes on a whole new dimension. The Terra H40 is built precisely for this kind of adventure. Vittoria Terreno tires with a 40 mm width provide excellent grip on both gravel and pavement, so you no longer have to limit yourself to perfectly surfaced roads on the way home. The Shimano CUES 2x10 drivetrain with an 11–39T cassette offers enough range even for steep climbs and, thanks to its durability, can handle the harshest winter conditions. The carbon seatpost with a 20 mm offset also helps absorb unpleasant impacts from potholes. You can find the versatile Orbea Terra H40, available in two color options, at the MTBIKER shop.

Superior XR 65 GF - 1,749 €

Not every bikepacking trip has to take you through rough terrain. If you plan to cover long distances across the country primarily on asphalt, an aggressive gravel tread would only cost you valuable watts and reduce your speed. The XR 6.5 GF is designed mainly for fast weekend rides rather than hour-long cyclocross races. The Shimano 105 road groupset in a 2x12 configuration with an 11–34T cassette delivers smooth gear progression while still providing enough range for long climbs. The fast-rolling 30 mm Schwalbe One tires feature reliable RaceGuard puncture protection, and the DT Swiss R500 rims are tubeless-ready, allowing sealant to quickly take care of minor punctures. The fast Superior XR 6.5 GF awaits you at the MTBIKER shop.
