Comfortable wearing

The ORTOVOX ASCENT 38 S AVABAG backpack itself without the avalanche system weighs a very pleasant 1270 g (with the avalanche system and bomb 2270 g). Its 3D foam back system is covered with softshell to prevent snow from sticking to the back. The wide waist belt, which is equipped with a metal buckle, together with the ergonomically shaped shoulder straps, ensures a very comfortable wearing.
The avalanche backpack ORTOVOX ASCENT 38 S AVABAG KIT has no unnecessary straps and rubber bands, but only functional elements. ORTOVOX designers took care of a very clean look even when you carry ice axes, rope and skis on it. Although the backpack is made of soft to the touch material, the fabric used with a ripstop weave is extremely resistant to tearing. Every detail of the backpack is well-crafted, durable materials are used, so you don't have to worry about the edges of skis, snowboards, ice axes or snowshoes.

The AVABAG avalanche system is compact and extremely light

The AVABAG avalanche system, made in Switzerland, works on the principle of the Venturi effect, which does not need any electronics to function, is fully enclosed and very simple in design. There is no damage or corrosion. The volume of the entire system unit is 1.8 l, so it is smaller than a two-liter bottle of water, but the weight is almost a third, 690 g!

Despite how small the system is, it has enormous power and inflates the airbag very quickly (it was able to lift a car during tests). Welded airbag that keeps air longer

The 160-liter emergency airbag is not glued or sewn. Everything is connected by innovative welding technology in one single edge. That's why the bag is so light, durable and waterproof. The instructions for assembling the airbag "into an accordion" are part of the backpack and you always have this important information with you.

Simple activation of the avalanche system

The ergonomic pull handle with anti-slip treatment is easy to grip. In addition , the handle can be adjusted according to the height of the figure, so you will always have it at hand. Whether you are right-handed or left-handed, you can always grip the handle comfortably and correctly. There is a pocket on the shoulder strap in which you can hide the cable in situations where you do not want the system to be activated unintentionally (at the lodge, in the cable car cabin, etc.)

Practice shots in the dirt

Canadian avalanche researcher Pascal Haegeli reports that 12% of people who were carrying any avalanche systems and were buried died because they failed to activate the unit properly. This led ORTOVOX to the idea of repeatedly trying to activate the system without the need for a bomb. So you can train in the dirt and be sure that you will know exactly what to do when the worst happens.
You can stretch the needle of the activation unit and repeatedly try to pull the handle correctly. The activation key is included in the package. When you activate it "blindly", you hear the pop of the fired needle and you are so sure that you are doing everything correctly.

1. Choose a bomb.
2. Stretch the needle with the activation key.
3. Put on your backpack.
4. Set the correct position of the handle to the height of your figure.
5. Adjust the backpack and tighten it tightly (waist belt, shoulder straps, secure the safety strap).
6. Pull the handle.
7. Can you hear the popping? You did everything right! Don't forget to thread the needle again.
8. Didn't you hear the snap? Something is wrong! Do everything again or contact your dealer.

Carbon bomb for the plane

For the AVABAG system, use the original carbon bomb, which weighs only 310 g. Despite the same thread and size of the cylinder, the gas content is under a different pressure and in a different volume than in the cylinder of the ABS system. Therefore, it is not possible to use the ABS cylinder with the AVABAG system. After using the cartridge, it is not necessary to buy a new one, but it is enough to have it refilled at the ORTOVOX dealer. The filling is certified for 5 years. AVABAG bombs are certified by an international airline company for safety, so you can transport them by air (documents can be found on the seller's website or directly on the ORTOVOX website).
The main pocket has a waterproof two-way zipper along the perimeter of the backpack, so you can get into it like a suitcase. You can see everything right away and you don't have to search the whole backpack. The interior is bright for better orientation in the dark. The main pocket contains printed instructions for assembling the airbag, a loop for a gas cylinder, a clip for a water tank and a spacious pocket with a drawstring for a down jacket or first aid kit.

Separate pocket for avalanche equipment

There are compartments for avalanche equipment in the front chamber. The zipper of this bag is marked in red and inside this chamber there are sewn compartments for a shovel, a handle and a probe, and if necessary, unpacking things for avalanche rescue is a matter of seconds.

Practical pockets to facilitate a day in the mountains

• There is a small pocket in the front for a map, compass and other navigational equipment. This bag also has a plastic carabiner for keys.
• On the upper side of the backpack is a pocket for a snack or other small equipment. In short, you put in it the equipment you want to have at hand. You can get into the pocket even if you have a backpack on your back. Just put your hand behind your head and the zipper is within reach.
• There is a spacious velcro pocket on the inside of the backpack lid, where you can store gloves or a snack. Below it is a zipped pocket where you can put your wallet or mobile phone.
• The hip pocket is suitable for a camera or mobile phone.

Back size "regular"

The backpack was adapted for people with an average back length of 42-50 cm - for a figure of approximately 170 to 195 cm. The length is calculated from the 7th cervical vertebra to the upper part of the pelvis. The backpack is not only modified in the length of the back, but also changes in the shape of the shoulder straps and adjustment of the waist belt. The backpack thus fits perfectly and holds more firmly on the back.
