Synthetic fabrics used for tents and backpacks are coated with water-repellent treatment. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light destroys the water repellency and leads to a decrease in the tear strength of the fabric, significantly shortening the life of the device.
Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarWash can double the effective life of gear by cleaning and protecting against UV damage while revitalizing the water resistance (DWR) to keep the rain out.

Tents and backpacks use synthetic fabrics such as nylon or polyester with a thin waterproof polyurethane (PU) or elastomer coating on the inside and a durable water repellent (DWR) coating on the outside. This combination gives great strength and water resistance combined with low weight, ideal properties for outdoor equipment.
Unfortunately, these materials are sensitive to sunlight and can lose up to half of their strength in two weeks of continuous exposure. In addition, the interior coating will deteriorate if you leave it wet for a long time.
Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarWash cleans the entire fabric and protects against the effects of UV radiation and water.
How to use:
- Manually Apply Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarWash manually...
- Use gloves.
- Set up a tent OR protect the work surface and lay the object flat.
- Spray evenly on the outside of the fabric. For large items, it applies in sections.
- Spread well with a damp cloth/sponge, paying attention to particularly dirty areas. If necessary, use a soft nylon brush to remove stubborn stains.
- Rinse with clean water using a cloth or sponge.
Items should be air dried. Allow items to dry completely before wrapping
*There may be marks on the fabric if the excess product is not wiped off. Test in a hidden place first.
Use approximately 50 ml of product per 1 m2 of fabric.
Coverage is approximate and depends on the condition of the fabric being treated.
