Cable, bowden, chain clutch and other pliers
Are you facing the challenge of replacing a torn chain, a frayed cable, or needing to shorten a hydraulic hose? Classic home-made combination tools will do more harm than good in this case. In the bicycle pliers category, you will find specialised tools designed specifically for the delicate yet durable mechanics of your bicycle. With quality pliers, you can handle even the most demanding service tasks with surgical precision and without unnecessary effort.
What pliers should not be missing in your bike workshop?
Each type of pliers in our offer has its own specific task. Choose the ones that will make your job easier:
Chain coupler pliers: These make it a matter of seconds to disconnect or connect a chain using a quick coupler. No more worrying about pliers slipping.
Cable and Bowden pliers: Forget about frayed ends! These pliers won't cut the cable, but will cleanly "snip" it, which is crucial for the smooth operation of your shifting and brakes.
Hydraulic hose cutters: When shortening brake hoses, you need a perfectly square and clean cut to ensure a leak-proof system. These pliers are the only right choice for this task.
Cable end pliers: For a professional finish to your work. Use them to elegantly crimp the end of the cable so that it does not unravel further.
Why invest in special cycling tools?
You may be wondering if regular pliers from the hobby store are not enough. Here are a few reasons to reach for professional tools:
Materials that last: Bicycle cables are made of hard stainless steel. Our pliers have hardened steel blades that won't dull after the first use.
Ergonomics for your palm: Rubberised and contoured handles provide a firm grip, even if your hands are oily or greasy.
Component protection: specially shaped jaws fit precisely over small bicycle parts, so there is no risk of scratching or deforming them.
Are chain quick-release pliers universal for all speeds?
Mostly yes. Most modern clutch pliers are designed to handle chains from 5 to 12 (and even 13) speeds. The only difference is the width of the clutch, which these pliers can easily handle thanks to their design. However, always check the product description to see if your model also supports the latest 12-speed groupsets (e.g. SRAM Eagle or Shimano).
Why do some cable pliers have a small tip in the handle?
The tip (so-called spike) is used to stretch the inner lining of the cable after cutting. When cutting, the plastic tube inside the cable can be slightly compressed. With this tip, you can round it perfectly again so that the cable slides inside with minimal friction.
