The top-of-the-line Fenix 18650 3000 mAh rechargeable batteries (ARB-L18-3000P) with protected electronics are designed for discharge currents of up to 14 A. Li-ion rechargeable batteries are characterized by a very high capacity, they do not suffer from the memory effect. The 18650 Li-ion is the best choice in terms of stored energy due to the size and weight of the battery. These batteries are especially suitable for the Fenix TK35 UE V2.0 LED luminaire.

Fenix battery protection consists of internal safety mechanisms and protection electronics. The added electronic circuits prevent the cell from overcharging, over-discharging and against short-circuiting or excessive current consumption. If the battery electronics evaluate that the limit values have been reached, they will safely disconnect the cell.

The internal protection consists of a separator, protection against overheating (PTC thermal protection) and a special explosion-proof valve. If the gas pressure in the cell exceeds a certain limit, the internal separator separates the electrodes inside the battery and thus de-facto interrupts the exothermic reaction and the anti-explosion valve releases the gas overpressure outside the accumulator. Thanks to the combination of electronic and mechanical (temperature and pressure) protection, Fenix batteries are among the safest Li-ion batteries available.

Due to its size, the 18650 battery corresponds to about two CR123A lithium batteries, so it is often used in lights as a rechargeable alternative to these primary cells.
