WARNING
For information on installation, adjustment, and replacement of products which you do not find in the user's manual, contact your place of purchase or a distributor. A dealer's manual for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics is available on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, be sure to read this "user's manual" thoroughly before use, follow it for correct use, and store it so that it can be referenced at any time.
The following instructions must be observed at all times in order to prevent personal injury and physical damage to equipment and surroundings. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage which may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, and you may suddenly fall and be seriously injured.
- Check that the wheels are securely fastened before riding the bicycle. Incorrect use of the axle release lever may cause the wheel to fall off, etc., and may lead to serious injury from a fall or collision.
- Use the appropriate air pressure indicated on the tire and rim. If a maximum pressure is indicated on the tires or rims, do not exceed the maximum pressure with the lower value. Higher than indicated pressure may cause a sudden puncture and/or sudden release of the tire and cause serious injury.
WH-M9200-TL / WH-M9220-TL / WH-M8200-TL: maximum pressure = 2.5 bar / 36 psi / 250 kPa
WH-MT601-TL: maximum pressure = 3 bar / 44 psi / 300 kPa
- Before riding the bicycle, you should thoroughly check the wheels and make sure there are no cracks in the axles; if you find anything unusual, DO NOT USE the bicycle. This wheel was not designed for downhill or freeride riding. Depending on riding conditions, cracks may form on the wheel axle, which can cause wheel axle failure, leading to an accident with consequences of serious injury or death.
- Before riding the bicycle, check the wheels to make sure the spokes are not bent or loose and that there are no nicks, scratches, or cracks on the rim surface. If you find any of these problems, do not use the wheel. The wheel may break and you may fall. Check that there is no peeling or cracking of the carbon.
- Do not use with rim brakes. These wheels are designed exclusively for use with disc brakes. Using these wheels with rim brakes can damage the rims and cause an accident that can result in serious injury or even death.
- Check that the axle release lever does not interfere with the disc brake rotor even when fully engaged. If the axle release lever is on the disc brake rotor side, it may interfere with the disc brake rotor, which is dangerous. If the axle release lever interferes with the disc brake rotor, stop using it immediately and contact your place of purchase or distributor.
- Check how the axle release lever is used. Incorrect use of the axle release lever may cause the wheel to fall off, etc., and may lead to serious injury.
- This wheel can only be used in combination with a special front fork/frame and hub axle. If used in combination with any other front fork/frame or hub axle, the wheel may detach from the bicycle during riding, resulting in serious personal injury.
- Read the disc brake manual carefully and keep it in a safe place for future reference.
- Details about the E-THRU axle are provided in the user's manual for the E-THRU axle.
- Tires should be installed and removed by hand. If this is difficult, you can use a resin tire lever for tubeless wheels. In such cases, be sure to check that there are no dents, scratches, or cracks on the rim surface, as there is a risk of damaging the air seal between the tire and the rim, resulting in air leakage. For carbon rims, check that there is no peeling or cracking of the carbon. Finally, make sure there is no air leakage.
- When mounting the wheel to the front suspension fork/frame, always follow the instructions in the manual for the front suspension fork/frame. The securing method as well as the tightening torque of the wheel vary according to the type of front suspension fork/frame used. If you do not follow the instructions, the wheel may fall off and result in serious injury.
CAUTION
- If you use tire sealant, contact your place of purchase or distributor. Tire sealant can damage the tire and rim. Use tubeless tape for these wheels.
- Do not use any tape other than the original SHIMANO tubeless tape. Otherwise, a sudden puncture may occur and you will fall off the bicycle.
- If you use a Tubeless Ready type tire, which must be used in conjunction with sealant, use the sealant recommended by the tire manufacturer.
Bedding-in period
- Disc brakes have a certain bedding-in period, and the braking force gradually increases as the bedding-in period progresses. Make sure you are aware of such increases. Otherwise, you may lose control of the bicycle, fall, and be seriously injured.
- The same situation occurs when replacing brake pads or the disc brake rotor.
