Fulcrum Wind 42 DB 28" wheelset, clincher, disc, thru axle, carbon
The Wind range with the latest 42 and 57 mm versions is Fulcrum's answer to the modern cyclist looking for versatile and high-performance wheels that guarantee a unique riding experience.
Designed to balance performance and comfort, the Wind 42 and 57 guarantee controllability and versatility. In fact, the new wheels are not only intended for road use, as they can also handle light off-road riding, making them ideal for gravel bikes.
The new Wind wheelset model is derived from the Speed model, which is mainly performance-oriented. The Wind 42 and 57 adopt many of Fulcrum's patented technologies to offer an excellent riding feel compared to the previous generation.
Controllability has been improved by 22% and reactivity by +10%* on these versatile and comfortable wheels.
Among the most noticeable changes are the rims, whose height has been increased to 42 and 57 mm, with an internal rim width of 23 mm. The graphics have also been completely redesigned, reflecting the new Form Function Fulcrum brand identity with a minimal yet refined design that includes new icons providing all the technical information about the product directly on the rim.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
RIMS
- The Wind rims are taller and wider than the previous generation. At the same time, the overall weight has been reduced thanks to a new carbon fiber composite and its placement inside the mold.
- The previous 40 and 55 mm versions have been replaced by 42 and 57 mm versions with an internal rim width of 23 mm, which provides better support for wider tires, which are currently trending, thanks to improved performance in terms of rolling resistance and comfort.
- The rim design is identical to the Speed 42 and 57, with a change in the mix of carbon fibers used. The Wind range uses the FF80 mix, which has allowed for an average weight saving of 100 grams per pair compared to the previous generation of Wind.
- The front part of the rim has also been widened to a radius of 9.5 mm, which has improved aerodynamic performance and overall controllability.
- The rim construction uses the patented DRSC™ (Directional Rim-Spoke Coupling) system. A specific plastic support is embedded in the carbon near the nipples to ensure greater stiffness and durability of the system, distribute the nipple tension over a wider area, and prevent potential situations of galvanic corrosion.
- The internal rim channel has no holes thanks to our MOMAG mounting technology, which allows for a 2-WAY FIT™ tubeless-ready rim without the need for tubeless rim tape, and the presence of a traditional bead hook ensures maximum compatibility with all inner tubes.
- The internal channel finish is achieved using C-LUX™ technology, which is polished to ensure easy and optimal tire mounting and seating. Part of the graphics are applied directly by laser for a modern look and are then supplemented with reflective stickers that increase visibility in low-light conditions.
- The pairing of tire and rim is, of course, up to the rider and varies depending on the bike configuration and terrain type. The new Wind range allows for the widest possible choice of tires, from 25 mm to 45 mm. We recommend tires from 28 to 30 mm for exclusive road use and between 32 and 35 for mixed-surface riding.
- Constant long-term wheel performance is guaranteed by the use of Ø 2.0, 1.8, 2.0 stainless steel spokes with self-locking aluminum nipples.
- The spokes have been laced using the Two-to-One™ system, which doubles the spokes in areas subjected to greater stress, preventing energy dispersion and counteracting torsional force. The spokes cross on both sides but never touch each other to prevent friction and deformation, so the mechanical properties do not change over time.
- The forged hub ensures greater mechanical resistance to various forces. Sealed bearings run on an integral axle that can be adjusted with a pre-load ring nut to minimize wear and ensure exceptional smoothness.
- The freewheel body system has been reinforced and enlarged, now featuring 36 teeth. The bike is available with Campagnolo N3W, Shimano HG, and Sram XDR freehub bodies.
