Shimano Ultegra WH-R8170-C36 28" wheelset
With the Ultegra 8100 wheels, Shimano has managed to further improve the optimal interplay of stiffness, aerodynamics and low weight. The individual components have been carefully examined and clearly optimized at critical points. This means you always have the best and fastest material on your bike.|
The new shape reduces air resistance and thus allows higher speed with less effort
|
|
To improve protection against punctures, you can switch to tubeless tires and thus increase driving comfort
|
|
The bearings ensure smooth operation and a long service life
|
|
Designed for 12-speed Shimano Road cassettes, but older groups of components can also be used
|
|
Thanks to the low height of the rim, the wheels feel particularly comfortable on mountain stages, but also in strong winds

WARNING
For assistance with installation, adjustment, and replacement of products not found in the user's manual, please consult the place of purchase or a distributor. A dealer's manual intended for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics is available on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, be sure to read this "user's manual" thoroughly before use, follow it for correct use, and save it so that you can refer back to it at any time.
The following instructions should always be followed in order to prevent personal injury, damage to equipment or damage to the surroundings. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage which may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER – Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING – Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION – Failure to follow the instructions could cause personal injury, or physical damage to equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. Doing so may cause the product to not operate correctly, and you may fall unexpectedly and be seriously injured.
- Before riding the bicycle, check that the wheels are securely fastened. Improper use of the quick release lever can cause the wheel to come off, etc., and a serious injury may result from falling or collision.
- Use the appropriate air pressure indicated on the tire and rim. If a maximum pressure is indicated on the tires or rims, do not exceed the maximum pressure with the lower value. Higher than the specified pressure may cause the tire to burst suddenly and/or the tire to come off suddenly, resulting in serious injury.
WH-R9270-TL / WH-R8170-TL / WH-RS710-TL: Maximum pressure = 7.5 bar / 109 psi / 750 kPa
WH-R9170-TL / WH-RS770-TL: Maximum pressure = 8 bar / 116 psi / 800 kPa
WH-RS370-TL: Maximum pressure = 6.5 bar / 94 psi / 650 kPa
WH-RX880-TL / WH-RX870-TL / WH-RX570-TL: Maximum pressure = 5 bar / 72 psi / 500 kPa
- Before riding the bicycle, check the wheels to be sure that the spokes are not bent or loose, and that there are no gouges, scratches, or cracks on the rim surface. If any of these problems are found, do not use the wheel. The wheel may break and you may fall. Check that there is no peeling or cracking of the carbon.
- Do not use the road wheel set on unpaved surfaces. The road wheel set is designed for paved surfaces. If the wheels are used on unpaved surfaces, the wheels may bend or become damaged, and an accident may result.
- Do not use the GRAVEL wheel set in harsh conditions such as rough roads. Do not use it for downhill bicycle riding or freeriding, otherwise the wheel may bend or otherwise be damaged if subjected to a strong impact, and an accident may result.
- Do not use with rim brakes. These wheels are designed exclusively for use with disc brakes. Using these wheels with rim brakes can damage the rims and cause an accident, which may result in serious injury or even death.
- Check that the quick release lever does not interfere with the disc brake rotor even when fully engaged. If the quick release lever is on the disc brake rotor side, it may interfere with the disc brake rotor, which is dangerous. If the quick release lever interferes with the disc brake rotor, immediately stop using it and consult the place of purchase or a distributor.
- Details on the E-THRU axle are given in the user's manual for the E-THRU axle.
- Tires should be installed and removed by hand. If it is difficult, you can use a resin tire lever for tubeless wheels. In such cases, be sure to check the rim surface for gouges, scratches, or cracks, as there is a risk of damaging the air seal between the tire and rim, which may result in air leakage. For carbon rims, check that there is no peeling or cracking of the carbon. Finally, make sure that there is no air leakage.
F12 (front 12 mm axle), R12 (rear 12 mm axle) wheel (hub axle)
- This wheel can only be used in combination with a dedicated front fork/frame and hub axle. If used in combination with any other front fork/frame or hub axle, the wheel may detach from the bicycle during riding, resulting in serious personal injury.
CAUTION
- Please note that a higher rim is more easily affected by the wind, causing unstable steering.
Warm-up period
- Disc brakes have a certain warm-up period, and the braking force gradually increases along with the increasing warm-up period. Be sure to be aware of such increases. Otherwise, you may lose control of the bicycle, fall, and be seriously injured. The same situation occurs when replacing the brake pads or disc brake rotor.
