Touring and yet a downhill binding

Downhill bindings are proven, and their heel construction is unsurpassed, which is exactly what the Fritschi Tecton 13 is based on. Its stiff, non-rotating heel without a pivot has no play and allows for direct power transfer from the skier to the ski edge. This achieves better control and safety while riding. Further power transfer is achieved through:

 
  • the skier is pressed onto the heel over a large area
  • grooves in the heel engage with the inserts on the boot, increasing the lateral stiffness of the binding
  • the skier leaning against the heel support
  • a large screw spacing
  • the heel being mounted directly to the ski
  • a large and wide contact area under the toe and heel
 

The heel of the binding is subjected to 4x greater force than the toe during riding, which is why the Tecton 13 has a sensitive toe and a stiff (downhill) heel. Thanks to the precise transfer of load to the ski edge, you will fully enjoy your ride.

A truly stiff heel for a perfect riding experience

The skier's heel won't move even a millimeter thanks to the Power Rail grooves, which extend from the heel piece and precisely engage with the grooves in the boot intended for the rear tech fittings. This fixes the boot in both vertical and horizontal directions, and every movement is transferred from the boot to the ski without energy loss. Thanks to this, you will be able to control the skis excellently and have the much-needed confidence while riding. This will be appreciated not only by every good rider but also by beginners who are just getting used to off-piste skiing.

Excellent skiing thanks to the active heel

The active sliding heel adapts to the boot by up to 10 mm when the ski flexes during the ride, allowing for a smooth flex of the ski along its entire length, which is a necessary feature of a binding for perfect skiing. A binding without an active heel prevents the ski from flexing, stiffens the center, and the ski only flexes in front of and behind the binding, which significantly worsens its riding characteristics. Fritschi has eliminated this problem, making the Tecton 13 binding also ideal for all-day resort skiing.

Highest safety in tech bindings

The Fritschi Tecton 13 ski touring binding is based on the construction of a downhill binding, where the toe piece releases sideways according to the set DIN release force. Thanks to this, it releases precisely under rotational forces, preventing torsional fractures. Health and safety are the main principles that the Swiss manufacturer Fritschi adheres to when developing its products. Safety is more important than weight.

The binding only releases when you really need it to

With classic tech bindings, unintentional release during a descent can easily occur, which can have fatal consequences on steep descents. The constructive solution of the toe and heel piece of the Tecton 13 binding has a dynamic elasticity of 13 mm and 9 mm respectively, which can be understood as a buffer to absorb forces generated by riding over bumps or sudden impacts. Even with aggressive riding on hard or heavy snow, unintentional release does not occur.

  • The Fritschi Tecton 13 does not release too early, but only after exceeding a travel of 13 mm laterally in the toe and 9 mm upwards in the heel.
  • This travel is sufficient to absorb energy so that the binding does not release unintentionally after a short-term exceedance of the set DIN release force – during a jump or impact on an uneven surface.
  • The binding releases sideways even with the toe set to walk mode – an important feature in case of avalanche burial, loss of balance during ascent, or falls during short descents on skins.

The Fritschi Tecton 13 binding has the same dynamic elasticity as the downhill binding that Fritschi produced for over 30 years, and today it uses this know-how in the development of ski touring bindings.
