Rechargeable Li-ion battery Fenix ARB-L14-1050 (14500) with protection is based on lithium-ion technology. Li-ion technology offers one of the best energy-to-weight ratios of the cell. The batteries have no memory effect and self-discharge is minimal.
Battery protection can be divided into two areas. The first includes electronic circuits that prevent overcharging of the cell (a situation where there is a risk of explosion with conventional li-ion batteries) or, conversely, excessive discharge (the accumulator would then not be rechargeable). Furthermore, these circuits protect the battery against short circuits or high current draw that could damage the accumulator. If the battery's electronics detect that the limit values have been reached, the cell is disconnected. The second area includes overheat protection (PTC thermal protection) and a special anti-explosion valve. Unlike other valves used in li-ion batteries, this one, when the gas pressure inside the cell exceeds a certain limit, separates the electrodes inside the battery, thereby de facto interrupting the exothermic reaction and releasing the overpressure of gas outside the accumulator. Thanks to the combination of electronic and mechanical (thermal and pressure) protection, Fenix batteries are among the safest li-ion accumulators available.
In terms of size, it roughly corresponds to a 14500 accumulator and a classic AA battery, but it has approximately 3x higher voltage. Therefore, it can only be used to power flashlights and headlamps that support this higher voltage. It can be used, for example, in Fenix RC05, Fenix LD09 (220 lumens version only), Fenix LD11, Fenix LD12 (320 lumens version only), Fenix LD12R, Fenix LD22 V2.0, Fenix E25 Ultimate Edition flashlights, and the Fenix HL35 headlamp.
