Mountain Equipment Glacier 450 Regular sleeping bag, obsidian
Mountain Equipment Glacier 450 Regular Sleeping Bag
Quality sleep is one of the basic requirements for full regeneration during any outdoor activity. The Mountain Equipment GLACIER 450 LONG down sleeping bag has a water and wind resistant outer material that is still highly breathable. The sleeping bag is filled with duck down and, together with its sophisticated construction, will allow you to sleep comfortably even at -9 °C.DRILITE® LOFT
DRILITE® LOFT 30 D is a durable and lightweight (55 g/m2) waterproof outer material with a PU coating, creating a great sleeping bag for bivouacking. It also has a DWR water-repellent finish on the surface, which further helps to keep the down dry even in damp conditions. The down is thus protected from moisture and therefore from losing its thermal insulation properties. Thanks to its water resistance and low weight, the down maintains its high loft for maximum thermal insulation in all conditions.INNER MATERIAL SUPERSOFTTM 30 is chosen for its low weight (49 g/m2), high breathability, exceptional durability, and pleasant feel. It is also a material that does not let down through.
HIGH QUALITY DUCK DOWN WITH 700+ FILL POWER
Very high quality duck down from China contains at least 90% down, has a minimum fill power of 700 cuin, and meets the ethical DOWN CODEX®. The down is gently cleaned with water without chemical treatment. This reduces mites and their living environment, which is appreciated by allergy sufferers. The down retains its important natural oils and loft, is well packable, has high insulation, and low weight.SLEEPING BAG CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
-
The exact amount of down is calculated for each chamber for minimum weight and maximum warmth. This innovative 'Chamber by Chamber' approach was developed by Matt Fuller, who is the only person in the outdoor industry with a PhD in down research.
- Structurally exceptional insulation – so-called Body-mapping takes into account the needs of each part of the body separately. Therefore, Matt Fuller also calculated the exact density of down in each chamber separately.
- Not a gram of heat escapes – Thanks to the combination of alpha chambers and trapezoidal chambers, the sleeping bag offers excellent thermal insulation. Trapezoidal alpha chambers and trapezoidal chambers minimize heat loss through the seams and keep the down in place without migrating within the chambers. Heat remains in the sleeping bag thanks to the elimination of thermal bridges in the seams through which heat escapes.
- 3D hood without the need for tightening – the hood is shaped to protect the head even without tightening. 5 chambers prevent down migration, protect the head from heat loss, and thus ensure a comfortable sleep. If you need to tighten the hood, it's not a problem. Based on the shape of the drawstring, you know exactly whether you are tightening the upper part of the hood (flat drawstring) or the lower part of the hood (round drawstring).
- Ergonomic foot box – feet need to be insulated as best as possible because they have poor blood circulation. The bottom of the sleeping bag is trapezoidally shaped and the toe area is raised like a shark fin. Thanks to this ergonomic shape, you do not compress the chambers in the foot area with your feet, and thus the insulating properties that keep your feet warm are not lost. The bottom of the sleeping bag is made of the warmest V-chambers and is so complex that it is manufactured separately and then sewn onto the sleeping bag.
- Down used in the bottom of the sleeping bag and on the hood has a higher fill density, which prevents moisture from penetrating deeper into the chamber. You will appreciate this when sleeping in a snow cave, in contact with a wet wall, or with condensation in a tent.
- Protective 3D collar around the neck – to prevent heat from escaping the sleeping bag, there is a down-filled 3D collar on the inside that fills the space around the shoulders and neck. This effectively seals the sleeping bag. The collar has a lower down density to conform precisely to the shape of your shoulders and neck. Everything is secured by a magnetic snap that you can intuitively fasten and unfasten with one hand.
- Insulated draft tube along the zipper – the weakest point of sleeping bags is usually the zipper. The triangular draft tube is filled with down and synthetic material that adheres to the sleeping bag. The synthetic material prevents the down from moving along the draft tube and at the same time insulates even when wet. The zipper is located in the lower half of the sleeping bag so that the heat rising upwards does not escape through the zipper.
YKK® zipper with auto-lock
You won't experience the unpleasant feeling of waking up in the middle of the night with a loosened zipper in a Mountain Equipment sleeping bag, because the zipper has a lock and will not open on its own. With a simple pull, you release the lock and unzip the sleeping bag only when you want to. Works even after freezing – for easy, snag-free zipping, a high-quality YKK® zipper is used. This zipper works without problems even in frost, and you can rely on it at any time.
DOWN CODEX® – symbol of ethical animal husbandry
DOWN CODEX® is a certification of down origin, its quality, and the ethical and ecological approach to animal husbandry. Every year, the farms from which Mountain Equipment sources down are inspected by the independent Swiss organization IDFL to meet the highest quality parameters. This guarantees high quality animal welfare and therefore the quality of the down. One does not work without the other.
- Every down product has a unique code under which you can trace the origin of the down and its parameters
- Comprehensive and transparent audit system of down origin, from all brands and anywhere in the world.
- In Mountain Equipment products, down is always only a by-product of farms for meat or eggs.
