Polartec® Alpha® is an amazing insulation, it is soft, stretchy and light. A few years ago we thought it would be excellent as a base layer, but it tended to be damp and sticky against the skin. But when we were looking for better insulation for sub-zero riding, we tried using it on an Alpha® prototype as a second layer over a Prosecco base layer – and there we discovered the best combination for freezing weather riding.
We worked on the details and created this second layer for freezing rides. We used a half-zip so it doesn’t create bulk at the bottom of the torso, and we sewed the zipper slightly off-center to avoid multiplying the number of zippers at the neck. We kept the fit close to the body, so you have the choice of tucking it into your shorts or leaving it out like we do. We found it works well over a Flanders, Bandito and Miracolo base layer too.
