The definition of "road cycling" now includes gravel and terrain in addition to paved roads. Bicycles are also evolving to meet the needs of smaller riders. Meeting these two different demands has been the driving force behind the Zipp 303 Firecrest 650b. The smaller rim size offers the necessary clearance in the frame and fork for wider 28mm tires, which provide greater comfort, control, and better cornering. With a larger tire volume between the rim and the ground, the overall diameter including the tire is similar to a standard 700c wheel and road tire combination. Back on the road, the 650b is a more suitable wheel for smaller athletes riding smaller frames. For too long, too many smaller cyclists have trained and raced on standard 700c bikes. As a result, they have missed out on the benefits of a properly fitted wheel, such as improved handling and elimination of overlap between the front wheel and toe. At the heart of the 303 650b Firecrest Tubeless is a versatile and durable hub, the ZR1 DB, developed in Germany.
