Breathable waterproof footwear is most likely to become sweaty and damp inside when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer fabric or leather absorbs water, the footwear's breathability will be reduced. Therefore, it is essential to maintain the footwear's Durable Water Repellency (DWR) to ensure comfort. As footwear is used, dirt and other contaminants adhere to the outer surface, attracting water, thus masking the effect of any DWR treatment. Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel will remove contaminants and revive DWR.
When you are active and wearing footwear, socks wick moisture away from your feet keeping them dry. However, if your footwear absorbs water and becomes 'saturated', its breathability will be reduced. Damp vapours will not be able to escape through the material, so your feet will feel clammy and wet.
Regular cleaning will enhance the performance of your footwear by removing water-attracting (hydrophilic) dirt and other contaminants picked up outdoors. Cleaning with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel will revive your footwear's Durable Water Repellency (DWR) and cause water to bead on the outer surface. If Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel alone does not revive your footwear's DWR, it is time to re-proof using a suitable Nikwax WaterBased footwear proof.

How to use
- Rinse the item with clean water to remove loose dirt and to wet the surface
- Shake well before use. Depress the brush applicator to break the seal, or turn the spray nozzle to 'ON'
- Apply liberally to the cleaned area
- If very dirty, scrub with a stiff nylon brush (e.g. nail brush)
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- If required, apply a suitable Nikwax WaterBased proof or conditioner whilst the footwear is still damp
- Note: Colour may run, test on an inconspicuous area first
- Allow footwear to dry naturally at room temperature
- Paper can be stuffed into the toes to absorb excess moisture, this should be replaced when it becomes damp
- Keep footwear away from open fires and radiators, drying too quickly can cause leather to crack and glued soles to peel
