Tanneries, when cleaning outdoor leathers, remove all natural fat from the skin and replace it with synthetic hydrophobization. Sno-Seal® does not disrupt hydrophobization. Even footwear with a membrane lining (Gore-TEX®, Sympatex®, ...) has better properties if treated with Sno-Seal®.
While the membrane in the lining will keep water from penetrating from the outside even if the boot is untreated, water-soaked untreated leather will completely prevent the boot from breathing. Your feet will then sweat and you will start to feel cold. Treating the boot with Sno-Seal® means your feet will always stay dry and warm.
