Now, the Zipp 858 NSW and 808 Firecrest offer even more speed thanks to the addition of the Total System Efficiency design with a hookless tire seat on the rim. What's more, each of these sets is hundreds of grams lighter than its predecessor.
The Zipp 808 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake wheelset is all about the science of speed. This is the perfect approach for Zipp's stiff, high-profile wheels designed for triathlon, criterium, and road racing. Its 80mm deep rim is designed to make you faster in all directions. Zipp's design approach - Total System Efficiency (TSE) technology - imbues the 808 Firecrest with new features, including a significant weight reduction compared to the previous version, over 280 grams. The wheel is also designed with a hookless (no bead hook) and tubeless rim profile with an internal width of 23mm. An ideal combination for running wider tires at lower pressures, which reduces rolling resistance and provides better cornering grip. In fact, TSE attacks the four main barriers to speed: wind resistance, gravity, rolling resistance, and vibration losses. Zipp's legendary Firecrest rim shape provides high aero efficiency and stability in crosswinds. Zipp's ABLC technology also uses a complex dimple pattern on the rim to improve aero efficiency. What's more, even though this wheelset is optimized for tubeless use, you still have the option to use tubeless or tubeless-ready tires with an inner tube. The 808 Firecrest with TSE builds on this wheel's legacy as the fastest or optimized wheel for time trial, triathlon, and criterium racing. It is fastest when paired with a 28mm tire. Disc brakes offer more reliable brake force modulation and braking performance in all weather conditions. What's more, in triathlon, using wider tubeless tires at lower pressures will speed you up and smooth out the ride at the same time, so your legs will be fresher for the all-important run. The Zipp ZR1 DB hubset, designed in Germany, provides quick engagement, robust durability, and adds to the potency of the 808 Firecrest.
