DOWNCOUNTRY READY. The 34 SL model brings unprecedented capabilities to a full-fledged XC fork with up to 130 mm of travel. It is designed for the most technical World Cup XC tracks and demanding downcountry descents, and compared to the previous 34 Step-Cast fork, it adds more stiffness, smoothness, and absolutely minimal weight gain. The 34 SL fork uses the full-fledged construction of the 34 model (not Step-Cast) with a larger volume air spring, allowing for up to 130 mm of travel if you need it or want it. All this at a weight that made sense for both World Cup XC riders and weekend amateur racers. The new 34 SL arch, created and optimized by FOX engineers, wraps around the lower leg and increases the fork's torsional stiffness by 17% compared to the previous 34 SC model. Cutouts in strategic places of the arch help minimize the weight of the lower legs.
In addition to the arch, the cleverly designed 7000 series aluminum crown with larger internal relief holes and a black anodized finish (lighter than paint) further reduces weight, contributing to overall torsional stiffness. The 34 SL increases the overlap of the inner bushings by 20% compared to the 34 SC model, making the fork smoother overall. In the world of racing, every gram counts. With the GRIP SL, we have created a short-travel specific damping that not only reduces weight but can also keep up with the increasingly demanding XCO and XCM World Cup races. Thanks to optimized efficiency, GRIP SL offers riders the lightest XC damping with an unparalleled ride feel. Bypass channels help limit pressure build-up to increase sensitivity to small bumps, as well as oil recirculation to lubricate bushings and seals. By moving the bypass channels from the rear of the fork to the inside, they are now outside the fore-aft load path, further reducing dynamic friction throughout the fork's travel.
