Shimano XT BL-M8200/BR-M8220 Disc Brake Upgrade Kit

Designed with ergonomics and the human hand in mind, the Shimano XT BL-M8200 2-finger hydraulic brake lever offers a powerful pull with smooth lever feel and modulation for ultimate control in combination with the 4-piston BR-M8220 caliper. A new, closer pivot point follows the natural arc of the finger, while the 5-degree upturned lever and tuned grip width favor a natural position for confidently tackling technical trail sections. The upgrade kit includes two additional pairs of brake pads and 100 ml of mineral oil.

Robust, intuitive and consistent: XT BL-M8200+BR-M8220 4-Piston Disc Brake Upgrade Kit Shimano

The revised SERVO WAVE optimises the power curve without friction, while the new low-viscosity mineral oil keeps braking power constant at all temperatures and on all terrains.

With ultimate stopping power, consistency and control, the 4-piston BR-M8220 hydraulic caliper is the most powerful caliper in the Shimano XT M8200 family. New low-viscosity oil keeps the pad contact point of the M8220 brakes constant in all trail and weather conditions, and new brake pads eliminate rattling noises caused by vibrations. Increased braking power and consistency paired with silence ensure precise control on rough trails.

From the foundational moments in the early 1980s when DEORE XT first revolutionized mountain biking, SHIMANO brings fast and reliable shifting, a robust drivetrain construction, and refined braking systems to more riders with the latest introduction of DEORE XT M8200 Di2 components. Following the recent launch of our flagship XTR M9200 race group, DEORE XT receives key technology and design cues from XTR, delivering a robust group designed to withstand the demands of real-world riding, and consistently redefining what's possible on two wheels.

WARNING
Information on the installation, adjustment, and replacement of products not found in the user's manual can be obtained at the place of purchase or from a distributor. The dealer's manual for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics can be found on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, thoroughly read this "user's manual" before use, follow it for proper use, and store it for future reference.
The following instructions must always be followed to prevent personal injury and physical damage to equipment and surroundings. Instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage that may occur in case of improper use of the product.
DANGER - Failure to follow instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow instructions could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION - Failure to follow instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to equipment and surroundings.

WARNING
- Since each bicycle may handle slightly differently depending on the model, learn the correct braking technique (including brake lever pressure and bicycle handling characteristics) and operation of your bicycle.
- Improper use of the bicycle's braking system can result in loss of control, which can lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, you may fall unexpectedly and be seriously injured.
- Downhill cycling and freeride cycling are inherently dangerous activities. It is strongly recommended that riders wear head and body protection and perform thorough safety checks of their bicycles before riding. Remember that you ride at your own risk and therefore you should carefully consider your experience and abilities. There is a risk of being involved in an accident resulting in serious injury or even death.
- Before riding, riders must get used to the higher performance of this brake.
- The braking system is designed for downhill and freeride cycling, and its braking power is much higher than other brakes. If you ride without sufficient familiarity with the braking characteristics, you may be involved in an accident that could result in serious injury or even death. In addition, the brake settings do not allow for city street riding.
- Sudden braking can cause the bicycle to fall forward, which can result in serious injury or even death.
- 220 mm, 203 mm, and 180 mm rotors provide greater braking power than 160 mm rotors. If you ride without thoroughly familiarizing yourself with the braking characteristics, braking may result in a fall from the bicycle with possible serious injury or fatal accident.
- Keep fingers away from the rotating rotor. The rotor is sharp enough to cause serious finger injury if caught.
- Do not touch the calipers or rotor during or immediately after dismounting the bicycle. During braking, the calipers and rotor heat up, so touching them can cause burns.
- Do not allow oil or grease to get on the rotor or pads. Riding with oil or grease on the rotor or pads can cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Check the pad thickness and do not use them if they are 0.5 mm thick or less. This can cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Do not use the rotor if it is cracked or deformed. The rotor may break and lead to serious injury due to a fall.
- Do not use the rotor if its thickness is 1.5 mm or less. Also, do not use it if the aluminum surface is visible. The rotor may break and lead to serious injury due to a fall.
- Do not use the brakes continuously. This can cause a sudden increase in brake lever engagement, cause the brakes to malfunction, and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Check the information on supported models for each oil type and use the correct oil for the product. Failure to do so may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- For more information, visit https://si.shimano.com/dm/BROIL
- Do not mix SHIMANO hydraulic mineral oil with SHIMANO low-viscosity oil. This can cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- Do not use the brakes if fluid is leaking. This can cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Do not apply the front brake too strongly. If you do, the front wheel may lock up and the bicycle may flip forward, causing serious injury.
- Since the required braking distance will be longer in wet weather, reduce your speed. Apply the brakes early and gently. Otherwise, serious injury due to a fall or impact may occur.
- Wet road surfaces can cause tires to lose traction. To prevent this, reduce your speed and apply the brakes early and gently. If the tires lose traction, you may fall and be seriously injured.
Warnings regarding SHIMANO low-viscosity oil
- If SHIMANO low-viscosity oil gets into your eyes, rinse them with clean water and seek immediate medical attention. Eye contact can cause irritation.
- If SHIMANO low-viscosity oil comes into contact with your skin, wash it thoroughly with soapy water. Skin contact can cause rashes and discomfort.
- When using SHIMANO low-viscosity oil, protect your nose and mouth with a protective respiratory mask and ensure the area is well-ventilated. Inhaling vapor or fumes emitted from SHIMANO low-viscosity oil can cause nausea.
- After inhaling vapors or fumes emitted from SHIMANO low-viscosity oil, immediately move to a place with fresh air. Cover yourself with a blanket. Stay warm in a stable position and seek professional medical attention.
Break-in period
- Disc brakes have a certain break-in period, and braking power gradually increases with the break-in period. Accidents or falls resulting in serious injury may occur due to loss of control of the bicycle. The same situation will occur when replacing pads or the rotor.
