ORTOVOX Ascent 40 Avabag Kit backpack

The highly technical, light and durable avalanche backpack ORTOVOX ASCENT 40 AVABAG KIT is ideal for multi-day ski touring and ski mountaineering. With a volume of 40 liters and internal pockets, you will have enough space for all the equipment you need to take with you on a long ski tour. The ASCENT avalanche backpack stands out especially with its wide range of equipment attachment options, such as two ice axes, a rope, a helmet and skis. Comprehensive comfort is underlined by the 3D back system designed for demanding and long hikes. However, with the pull straps, you can reduce the size of the backpack even for one-day events or completely remove the avalanche system and use the backpack for any other purpose.

The avalanche backpack ORTOVOX ASCENT 40 AVABAG KIT has no unnecessary straps and rubber bands, but only functional elements. ORTOVOX designers took care of a very clean look even when you carry ice axes, rope and skis on it. Although the backpack is made of soft to the touch material, the fabric used with a ripstop weave is extremely resistant to tearing. Every detail of the backpack is well-crafted, durable materials are used, so you don't have to worry about the edges of skis, snowboards, ice axes, or snowshoes.

The AVABAG avalanche system is compact and extremely light

The AVABAG avalanche system, made in Switzerland, works on the principle of the Venturi effect, which does not need any electronics to function, is fully enclosed and very simple in design. The volume of the entire unit of the system is 1.8 l, so it is smaller than a two-liter bottle of water, but the weight is almost a third, namely 690 g! Despite how small the system is, it has enormous power and fills the airbag very quickly (it was able to lift a car during tests). Thanks to its small volume , you will always have enough space for your things and you don't have to hesitate whether to take the avalanche system kit with you or leave it at home. The volume of the backpack size 40 l indicates the actual volume after subtracting the volume of the entire AVABAG system (including the bomb).

Simple activation of the avalanche system

The ergonomic pull handle with anti-slip treatment is easy to grip. In addition , the handle can be adjusted according to the height of the character, so you will always have it at hand. Whether you are right-handed or left-handed, you can always grip the handle comfortably and correctly. There is a pocket on the shoulder strap in which you can hide the cable in situations where you do not want the system to be activated unintentionally (at the lodge, in the cable car cabin, etc.)

Practice shots in the dirt

Canadian avalanche researcher Pascal Haegeli reports that 12% of people who carried any avalanche systems and were buried died because they failed to activate the unit properly. This led ORTOVOX to the idea of repeatedly trying to activate the system without the need for a bomb. So you can train in the dirt and be sure that you will know exactly what to do when the worst happens. You can stretch the needle of the activation unit and repeatedly try to pull the handle correctly. The activation key is included in the package. When you activate it "blindly" , you hear the pop of the fired needle and you are so sure that you are doing everything correctly.

Choose a bomb.
Stretch the needle with the activation key.
Put on your backpack.
Set the correct position of the handle to the height of your figure.
Adjust the backpack and tighten it tightly (waist belt, shoulder straps, secure the safety strap).
Pull the handle.

Carbon bomb for the plane

For the AVABAG system, use the original carbon bomb (not included in the package), which weighs only 310 g. Despite the same thread and size of the cylinder, the gas content is under a different pressure and in a different volume than in the cylinder of the ABS system. Therefore , it is not possible to use the ABS cylinder with the AVABAG system. After using the cartridge, it is not necessary to buy a new one , but it is enough to have it refilled at the ORTOVOX dealer. The filling is certified for 5 years. AVABAG bombs are certified by an international airline company for safety, so you can transport them by air (documents can be found on the seller's website or directly on the ORTOVOX website).

Compatible with all AVABAG backpacks

Do you only want to buy a different type of backpack and you already have one backpack with the AVABAG system? The system is fully compatible with all ORTOVOX AVABAG backpacks, you can move one system from one backpack to another as needed. The instructions for folding the airbag are a fixed part of every backpack, so you will never forget it and you always have it practically at hand.

Separate pocket for avalanche equipment

There are compartments for avalanche equipment in the front chamber. The zipper of this bag is marked in red and inside this chamber there are sewn compartments for a shovel, a handle and a probe, and if necessary, unpacking things for avalanche rescue is a matter of seconds.
