When Castelli created the first aero jersey for competitive road cycling in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy, including some pro riders. Aerodynamics was then only for a time trial. The functionality of the clothing meant moisture wicking, and the Tour de France could be won in a loose jersey, which was basically a polyester T-shirt with pockets on the back. Even our aerodynamics consultants expected minimal, if any, advantage, which is why we named the jersey the Split Second. In the end, the advantages of the jersey were quite significant and we managed to start a revolution in the appearance of the professional peloton. The jersey is already in its seventh generation and we have managed to improve it every time. When placing the material and seams, we still rely mainly on CFD analysis of the airflow in the riding position, and together with the feedback from the riders, we can create a jersey that is not only fast, but also comfortable on long rides. Thanks to the Aero Kid jersey, young promising cyclists can ride in the same jersey and get the same benefits as his heroes in the pro peloton.
