Fenix HM50R is a small, high-performance rechargeable headlamp with a function that extends the duration. Either Li-ion battery RCR123 (included in the package) or disposable battery CR123A can be used for power supply. The RCR123A battery can be recharged via the micro USB connector directly in the headlamp. Due to its compact dimensions, it offers a respectable luminous flux of up to 500 lumens and an afterglow of up to 80 meters. The light source is the top LED Cree XM-L2 U2. An indicator diode is built into the control button on the side of the headlamp, which shows the battery charge status when pressed.

The headlamp is also equipped with a function that extends the duration. During prolonged use in the turbo (500 lumens), high (130 lumens) and medium (30 lumens) modes, the headlamp gradually reduces power in small steps to achieve a longer lighting time (see endurance graph). If you are interested in the differences between this model and the Fenix HM51R Ruby headlamp, read the article Comparison of Fenix HM50R and Fenix HM51R Ruby headlamps.

The all-metal construction ensures high resistance, optimal cooling, and at the same time it is fully waterproof according to the IP68 standard up to a depth of 2 meters under water. The practicality of the headlamp is increased by the possibility to remove the light from the head holder and use it also as a small pocket flashlight. The Fenix HM50R headlamp is an ideal companion for a variety of sports activities, trips to nature, home and work.

If the silicone holder does not suit you, you have the option to buy a replacement metal holder. You can remove the headlamp from this holder at any time and use it as a small flashlight.

All parameters of the lamp (luminous flux, lighting time on batteries, waterproofing, afterglow and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

Fenix HM50R headlamp parameters

  • A powerful Cree XM-L2 U2 LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours is used.

    • When powered from CR123A: 500 lumens (2 hours) -> 130 lumens (14 hours) -> 30 lumens (48 hours) -> 4 lumens (128 hours).
  • The aluminum reflector creates a wide light cone.
  • Electronics with the function of extended lighting time and protection against the reverse insertion of batteries.
  • One Li-ion battery RCR123A, which is part of the package, or one disposable 3V lithium battery CR123A can be used for power supply. It cannot be recharged in the headlamp.
  • Convenient control with one electronic switch on the side of the headlamp.
  • The headlamp remembers the last set power mode.
  • Battery charge status indication.
  • Strap with reflective elements.
  • The headlamp can be rotated in the holder in a wide range and thus set the desired lighting direction.
  • The possibility of purchasing a metal holder as a replacement for a silicone holder.
  • Made of aluminum alloy with a hard-to-scratch surface - Type III hard anodized, the holder is made of silicone.
  • Impact-resistant from a fall from a height of 1 meter.
  • Dustproof and waterproof according to the IP68 standard (tested under water at a depth of 2 meters).
  • Headlamp dimensions including holder: 6.75 cm x 3.3 cm x 2.8 cm.
  • Weight 80 grams (including battery).
  • Hardened ultra clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating.
  • The package includes a headlamp, a head strap, a spare o-ring, a spare charging connector cover, a spare headlamp holder, a Fenix ARB-L16-700 700 mAh battery and a USB charging cable.
  • A Fenix APB-20 case and a set of black AFH-02 straps without reflective elements can be purchased for the headlamp - they are suitable for example for the army, police or hunters.
  • After removing the headlamp from the holder, it can be attached to the handlebars with Lockblock and Bikeblock holders.
  • It is also possible to purchase a USB adapter for the mains and a USB adapter for the car.

The use

From the factory, there may be a plastic insulating cap inside the lamp, on the battery. Before first use, remove it from the battery.

You turn on the headlamp by pressing the button for half a second, as soon as it is on, the lighting modes are switched with a short press of the button. You can turn it off by holding down the button for half a second.

Battery charge status indication: After a short press of the button (headlight must be switched off), the LED indicator in the button is activated. If the indicator light is green, the battery is charged to more than 80%. Green flashing means 50-80% capacity. If it lights up blue, it is charged to 20-50%. Blinking blue means less than 20% of battery capacity remains.

Charging: Unfold the rubber cover of the charging connector and plug the enclosed cable into the lamp (micro-USB connector), plug the other end of the cable into a computer or USB adapter into the power grid or car (not included in the package). The side button lights up blue while charging and turns green when fully charged. After charging, seal the charging connector again with a rubber cap. Charging a fully discharged battery takes about 1.5 hours. In an emergency, the light can also be used while charging, but only the 30 lumen mode will be available.

Intelligent protection against overheating: If the temperature of the headlamp exceeds 65 °C, it will automatically reduce the power.

Warning

  • Do not disassemble the sealed parts yourself, this will void the warranty.
  • Use only high-quality batteries to avoid damage to the headlamp, for example due to leakage of substances from the battery.
  • If using disposable CR123A batteries, do not try to charge them in the headlamp.
  • If the headlamp flashes, does not switch to higher power modes, or does not light up, it may be for one of the following reasons:
    • The batteries are almost empty - charge them or replace them.
    • The contacts inside the headlamp are clogged - clean them with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
    • The battery tube cap is loose, tighten it.
