Garmin Edge 530 offers the display of detailed maps, the possibility of loading additional maps into the cycle computer's memory and calculating the route to the destination based on the map in the memory. Unlike models with a touch screen, however, it is not possible to browse, move and simply zoom in/out on the map if you want to view the surroundings or the course of the route. Compared to the older versions of the Edge 5XX, the new model offers improvements in the form of compact dimensions, low weight and a 13% larger display compared to the previous model Edge 520. The new display offers a higher resolution in addition to a larger diagonal.
Among the typical functions of this series are control using buttons, an excellently legible color display, compact dimensions, reliable functionality in all weather conditions.
The new processor contributed to the overall faster reactions of the Edge 530 cycle computer, both when moving through the menu and when calculating the route to the destination. The CLIMBPRO function is now available, which offers detailed information and evaluation of uphill driving when driving along a planned route. The MTB DYNAMICS feature provides advanced mountain bike riding statistics.
Safety functions have also been improved, traditional ones include the possibility of connecting a bicycle radar and monitoring vehicles coming from behind or automatic accident detection and sending a message to pre-set emergency contacts. Newly available is the FIND MY EDGE function, which helps to find a lost bike computer in the event of an accident or loss, or the BIKE ALARM function, which warns of unwanted wheel movement when, for example, you stop for a snack break.

The Edge 530 bike computer includes a highly sensitive GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO receiver for accurate and reliable determination of position, speed or distance, even in places with a limited view of the sky. The built-in barometric altimeter with automatic calibration according to GPS takes care of accurate height measurement. The cycle computer is equipped with Bluetooth and the possibility of connecting to a smart phone (iOS, Android, Windows Phone), from which it is able to receive SMS messages, calls and other notifications, as well as the weather forecast or use it for data connection with the training server. A smartphone is still just an accessory for a cycling computer, and the Edge 530 works to its full potential even without the presence of a phone.
Edge 530 can use external wireless ANT + and Bluetooth sensors.
It is thus possible to connect a heart rate sensor, a speed / cadence sensor, but also a wattmeter (e.g. Garmin Vector), a cycling radar (Varia Radar) or a cycling "head-up" display Varia Vision (all optional accessories) or smart cycling the lights. When connected to a wattmeter, the cycle computer is able to measure the performance parameters of cyclists, such as VO2max, FTP (functional threshold power) and, in the case of using the Garmin Vector Double wattmeter, the balance of the left / right leg or separate evaluation of sitting and standing riding.
The Edge 530 cycle computer is compatible with STRAVA segments, which is able to record segments in its memory, draw attention to them on the track, show a comparison with the leading times during the rides, and record the achieved result in the STRAVA leaderboard after the ride.

The third generation of the Varia™ cycle radar for safer driving on the roads. The active cyclo-radar alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind while driving and at the same moment starts to signal your presence on the road to the approaching vehicle. The reverse safety (red) LED light will ensure sufficient visibility and the approaching vehicle will alert you to your presence by changing the intensity of the light (flashing). The Varia™ cycle radar is a solution for better safety of cyclists when riding on normal roads, where frequent accidents occur due to rear-end collisions. Varia™ can register and warn the rider of approaching vehicles from up to 140 meters away. As part of the setting, the connected unit triggers an alarm (sound warning) immediately after the vehicle is registered. Varia™ also recognizes the speed of the vehicle and if it approaches too fast, the display will turn red and the reverse LED light will change (increase) the intensity (flashing).
The Varia™ RTL515 model from the new generation is additionally equipped with a Bluetooth interface for connecting and using functions in connection with a smartphone and the new Varia App. The design of the bicycle mounting bracket has also been improved, which includes an adapter for different shapes/profiles of seatposts - from standard round to AERO profile. The new Varia™ RTL515 model also supports multiple profiles for optimal use, e.g. when driving in a peloton, the radar will reduce the lighting intensity when flashing at an approaching vehicle, so that you do not blind your fellow passengers in the peloton.
